This morning, Christian woke me up early to let me know
that Mama Cow, April, was in labor with her first calf.
April is a very young mama (Thanks a lot, Merlin).
We have been especially vigilant in watching her closely
so we can be nearby when she goes into labor, in case we need to assist.
And we did this morning.
While Stillestead slept, we helped April into the squeeze chute
in the pasture where she delivered
a nice bull calf with the help of calf chains and Christian's strength.
I will never ever get over this epic experience of watching (and assisting)
a baby calf into the (cold) world!
He plopped out, safe and sound, healthy and vigorous.
I named him "Bing" after the voice of Christmas, Bing Crosby.
Christian and I missed church delivering baby Bing, but
I made it to Christmas choir practice!
One of my favorite things about Christmas is singing in the choir.
Occasionally, I am a team player, and that's on Christmas and Easter.
Plus, Gigs has joined me this year! What a treat!
And since Jane is in town, she came along, too!
Our branch is small, so the more voices we can get, the better!
We came home to a cozy fire, and Gigs made us all drinks
and burritos! Thanks, Gigs!
