Claire has officially begun working as a
Burn Tech in the Burn Center at Valleywise Health
hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
I couldn't be more proud.
I texted practically EVERYONE I KNOW, including
some doctors and other significant medical friends in my life
to show them this photo of Claire!
Every day after work, I call her to buoy her
and give her strength and encouragement because I know
that the burn center is NOT a place for the faint-hearted.
It's such an emotional place,
and for Claire, it's REALLY emotional.
She walked those very same halls as a little 9-year-old girl, but
this time not to visit her parents, who were dying,
but as medical staff for other individuals and families.
Someone else's mom and dad.
What a beautiful full-circle experience!
She told me the other day she had, in one of her patients' rooms,
glanced at herself all gowned up in the reflection of their monitor.
She said it caught her breath as she had remembered looking
to so many nurses that looked JUST LIKE SHE DID during
one of the most challenging times of her life.
She felt so proud and grateful to be on the other side of so
much pain and heartbreak.
The thing about Claire working in the burn center is
that not only does she have so much compassion for people
in general, but this type of injury is more than just an injury for her,
it's a way of life, and there is no better person to do this job than her.
I'm such a proud MAMA!
I know she is so exhausted after working 12-hour shifts,
and I am just so excited to talk to her all about everything,
but I know all she wants to do is go home to Curly.
(Does anyone know what movie that's from?)
