Our new family theme is a scripture found in the Bible in the
book of John (13:34-35),
and has been quoted and used thousands of times in talks,
speeches, and even in songs we sing.
"A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another; as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another."
But when it was quoted by Jeffery R. Holland in his address given
to the world in 2010 entitled "The First Great Commandment,"
we were blown away by how relevant this scripture is for our family,
and all of us--especially this part of his talk:
"If ye love me, keep my commandments," Jesus said.
So we have neighbors to bless,
children to protect, the poor to lift up, and the truth to defend.
We have wrongs to make right, truths to share, and good to do.
In short, we have a life of devoted discipleship to
give in demonstrating our love of the Lord.
We can't quit, and we can't go back.
After an encounter with the living Son of the living God,
nothing is ever again to be as it was before.
The Crucifixion, Atonement, and Resurrection of
Jesus Christ marks the beginning of a Christian life, not the end of it."
Christian and I will spend this school year (and forever)
teaching and studying with our children about this topic,
and how we can live this commandment to the fullest.

For us to truly and honestly LOVE others,
and God's commandments MUST be kept!
We can't force or demand love on or from anyone, and
only through grace is charity born, which enables us to truly love.
