What do you have planned for the weekend?
We are hoping and praying for SNOW!
It is supposed to be a bit stormy, but nothing too impressive.
I can only hope!
{Family Christmas Card when we lived in New Jersey 2005}
Today Mr. Nielson and I were thinking about when we
lived in New Jersey years ago.
We were poor and lonely without family around for the holidays.
All we wanted to do was go to Costco and buy a bulk bag of nuts
and put them in a big bowl in our kitchen for our little family and visitors.
(Which, in reality, we never had either in New Jersey).
On our tight grocery budget, it was hard to justify spending the $20.00
on something so non-essential as that,
but it reminded us of home, and it reminded us of happy times.
Nuts on the kitchen table meant Christmas, friends, family,
and spontaneous gatherings.
Today after Mr. Nielson and I went to the temple, we stopped
by Costco and picked up some Christmas nuts, then at home
I poured them into my Christmas bowl,
and Mr. Nielson and I sat around our little kitchen table, cracking
them open for our small children.
We both felt like we "made it."
Today in our kitchen, we have a nice assortment of nuts.
It still reminds me of my childhood.
As a child, I can see my dad cracking nuts and watching
a BYU basketball game on TV.
This weekend the Nielson family will:
-See the Christmas lights at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
-Oliver is going to a birthday party.
-Neighborhood Christmas light drive-by with my brother Andrew
and his family.
-Maybe some Christmas shopping.
Spiritual Enlightenment HERE
I just downloaded the soundtrack to "Life of Pi."
I have listened to it 30 times.
It is BEAUTIFUL and inspiring.
